NAME CHANGE?

Disney-owned Channel 9, known to Los Angeles eyes and ears for 41 years as KHJ-TV, may change call letters before the end of the year as the new owners continue to put their own stamp on the station.
KCAL-TV “California Nine” is a contender, but those letters are already used by two stations in this area: KCAL-AM, a Spanish-language station in Redlands, and KCAL-FM, a rock station. Daily Variety reported Monday that KHJ execs are negotiating with KCAL-AM to pick up that part of the alphabet for their own use.
Channel 9 reportedly is considering three possible monikers, but a spokesman Monday declined to name the other two.
