Violinist Eugene Fodor Jr., arrested in July when he illegally entered a Martha’s Vineyard motel and was found in possession of cocaine and heroin, has been placed on three years’ probation and ordered to undergo substance-abuse treatment. Fodor, 39, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering, but pleaded innocent to the other charges of possession of cocaine, heroin and a hypodermic needle. His lawyer said that the violinist recently completed a six-week substance-abuse program, attends Alcoholics Anonymous daily and is grateful that his arrest forced him to realize that he was deeply troubled. Fodor rose to international fame in 1974 when he won the silver medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
