River Threat

Share

The Clark County Nevada Sanitation District (Laughlin, Nev.) has applied for a permit to dump 7 million gallons of effluent or treated sewage waste water into the Colorado River each day.

This is a potential threat to the environment as well as a possible health problem since the Colorado River is a major drinking water source for California as well as other communities in the Southwest.

This application should be denied. The Arizona communities along the Colorado River have respected the environment by channeling their waste water into non-agricultural purposes such as golf courses, greenbelts, etc. If Laughlin is allowed to utilize the Colorado River as a dumping ground, other communities may follow suit creating an even larger health and environmental disaster.

We use the beautiful Colorado River for recreation as do thousands of Californians. Let’s not lose a precious natural resource when other alternatives are available.
