Three teachers have been selected as San Diego County’s 1990 Teachers of the Year and will represent the county in the Nov. 6 California Teacher of the Year competition.
The winners are Janis Gabay, an English teacher at Serra High School in the San Diego Unified School District; Grace Hauser, an extended-studies teacher at Del Mar Hills Elementary School, and George Roswell, a social-studies teacher at Rancho Buena Vista High School in the Vista Unified School District.
They were selected from among 18 nominees representing San Diego’s school districts and were judged by a committee of former Teachers of the Year.
The awards were made based on teaching skills, educational leadership, levels of parent and community involvement and the ability to inspire students.
