Put to the Test

Share

I enjoyed Chris Willman’s article on Don Henley (“Henley Forgives--But Doesn’t Forget,” Sept. 24). I was particularly struck with his statement: “. . . don’t be a follower, don’t be a sheep, don’t go along with the status quo, . . . don’t worship preachers or rock stars or anybody else.”

As I am nodding my head up and down affirming with the statement, guess what catches my eye? There on the facing page is an article, “L.A. Gear’s $20 Million Poster Boy,” with a picture of Michael Jackson holding a shoe. Immediately my belief is challenged, put to a test. I instinctively look down at my feet.

What do I believe now? Hmm, well, I do need a new pair of tennis shoes!
