LOCAL : Canoga Park Boy, 9, Hit by Car
A 9-year-old boy was injured this morning when he ran across a Canoga Park street to catch a school bus and was struck by a car, the Los Angeles police said.
Gonzalo Martinez of Canoga Park may have suffered a concussion in the 8 a.m. accident on Vassar Avenue near Valerio Street, officials said.
“It was a jaywalking situation,” Officer Tim Wienckowski said. “The boy ran between two parked cars and out into the street to get to a bus.”
The driver of a northbound car braked and tried to avoid the boy but he was struck and thrown to the pavement, Wienckowski said. The driver was not identified and was not cited.
The boy was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center where he was admitted for observation, spokeswoman Leslie Wither said. He was listed in stable condition with a possible concussion and cuts and scrapes.
