Private parties seeking state driver’s license or vehicle registration records will now have to wait 10 days for the information while the subject of the query is notified, the state Department of Motor Vehicles said. Under the new regulations, the subject will receive a copy of the form that must be filled out by the person or company seeking the information, said DMV spokesman Bill Gengler. If the subject does not wish the information disclosed, he or she must obtain a court order or persuade the DMV that release of the information--such as a home address--would jeopardize his or her personal safety, Gengler said. After 10 days, if the release has not been blocked, the information will be released, he said.
