President and Mrs. Bush attended a performance of the Joffrey Ballet at the Kennedy Center Tuesday night that included the world premiere of a balletic salute to vaudeville that was commissioned in honor of the presidency.

The 40-member dance company based in New York and Los Angeles displayed the versatility of its repertoire, from a classical opening set to the music of Saint-Saens to a revival of a dance for two called Sea Shadow to a solo performance set to the spiritual, “Touch Me.”

The work was commissioned by industrialist David H. Murdock to honor “the office of the American presidency.”
