WORLD IN BRIEF : CHINA : Ex-Leader Zhao Attacked in Media

China accused deposed Communist Party leader Zhao Ziyang of turning the party into a “club” by weakening its control and paving the way for “counterrevolutionary” workers’ organizations. In a detailed attack, the Beijing Daily newspaper also accused Zhao of advocating that the party surrender control of trade unions. Zhao, a reformist who will turn 70 next week, has not been seen since May.
