La Habra Police, Fire Stations to Hold Open House

Police and fire stations in La Habra will hold open houses Saturday.

McGruff, the Crime Prevention Dog, and a talking police car will be at the police station for visitors. There will also be canine demonstrations at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and motorcycle demonstrations at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

The police are celebrating 25 years at their current station. A pictorial history of the department will be on display, and guided tours of the station will be held throughout the day.

The Fire Department’s open house is targeting children and has adopted the National Fire Protection Assn.’s theme: “Big fires start small. . . . Keep matches and lighters in the right hands.”

The fire station’s programs will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities include extinguishing live fires, rappelling, the use of a hydraulic prying device to rescue a victim from a simulated auto accident, and a fire prevention film for children.

Firefighters will serve refreshments and provide handouts about smoke detectors, the city’s paramedic subscription program and other fire safety services.

The police station is at 150 N. Euclid St. and will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fire Station No. 2, at 520 S. Harbor Blvd., will welcome visitors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
