Koll, Ohbayashi Team to Build 28-Story Downtown L.A. Tower

The Koll Co. and Ohbayashi will build a $200-million, 28-story office tower in downtown Los Angeles.

The building, at the northeast corner of 6th and Hope streets, represents Ohbayashi America Corp.’s first U.S. project. The parent company is Ohbayashi Corp. of Japan.

The 565,000-square-foot building is scheduled for completion in September, 1991 at the terminus of the Hope Street Promenade, overlooking the California Club and the Los Angeles Central Library. Architects are Kohn Pederson Fox and Langdon Wilson Architects.

The design incorporates an urban park and outdoor dining area in the mezzanine courtyard. A 52-foot, black-granite monolith inlaid with a gold leaf sundial will be the centerpiece of the courtyard.

Interior floors will be virtually column-free and provide unobstructed views of the library corridor through the nearly floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

The overall design incorporates beige and red granites.
