COSTA MESA / NEWPORT / IRVINE : COSTA MESA : Council to Review General Plan Today

Share

The City Council has scheduled two public hearings this week to review the proposed general plan.

The first hearing will be at 6:30 p.m. today. The second will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. “The hearings will be of interest to anyone who owns property in Costa Mesa,” said Alice Angus, senior planner. “What is at issue is how much can be built on a lot. A business owner with plans for expansion or a homeowner who wants to add on to the property may find that impermissible under the new guidelines in this general plan.”

Angus said the proposed building density standards for both residential and non-residential zones are not a radical departure from existing ones.

“But state law requires that the General Plan proposal include alternatives. And one of the alternatives to be discussed will be the option of reducing the ratios (of floor space to land) even further. People should be aware of this.”

Both tonight’s and Thursday’s sessions will be at the Costa Mesa City Council Chambers, 77 Fair Drive.
