ON THE SIDELINES : Nashwan to Miss His Final Race
Nashwan, the 3-year-old who dominated the English horse racing season, will miss his final race because of sickness, trainer Dick Hern said.
Nashwan, who won the 2,000 Guineas and the English Derby, had been expected to run his final race Saturday in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket and then retire to stud. But Hern said the horse had a high temperature and would be unable to run.
Nashwan, who has been syndicated for $28.8 million is expected to be retired to owner Hamdan Maktoum’s Shadwell Stud farm in Thetford, England.
