Cub Fan Says ‘Lovable Loser’ Tag Doesn’t Fit

Share

Mike Downey should spare Cub fans the “lovable losers” stuff. It’s yesterday’s news. Consider only two teams in the National League--the (ugh) Dodgers and Cardinals--have been to the National League championship series in the ‘80s more often than the Cubs.

The Cubs, also in this decade, have a manager of the year, two MVPs, a Cy Young and a rookie of the year (this year). Now I realize that’s not much of a portfolio when stacked up against the legendary traditions of the San Francisco Giants (last World Series was 1962) or of the Angels (when was their last Series appearance?), but it hardly qualifies the Cubs as “lovable losers!”
