Motorist Sentenced for Brandishing Handgun
A motorist who pointed a handgun at another driver who turned out to be a judge was sentenced Friday to 240 days in jail.
George H. Schaab, 45, of Culver City, also was placed on three years’ probation by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gary Klausner. Schaab was given 120 days credit for time already spent in custody and good behavior.
Schaab pleaded guilty Sept. 15 to one count each of brandishing a firearm and being a convict in possession of a concealed weapon. He had been convicted in 1988 of possessing marijuana for sale.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Christine Gosney said Schaab was arrested Aug. 2 shortly after he pointed a gun at Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Leslie Light.
Authorities said Light was stopped at 2nd and Main streets in Santa Monica, when a motorist in a pickup truck behind him started blowing his horn.
Light gestured that he could not move because of a car in front of him. The other motorist, later identified as Schaab, then pointed a handgun at him.
Light wrote down Schaab’s license plate number and reported it to police, who then arrested Schaab. Police found the handgun, which was unloaded, and bullets in the pickup.
