A gunman burst into a Great Western Savings bank Friday, robbed several tellers and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The robbery occurred shortly after noon when the man, armed with a blue-steel revolver, entered the bank on Walnut Street in Irvine. After jumping over the counter, the bandit grabbed cash from several teller stations.

Irvine Police Lt. Vic Thies said the robber stuffed the money in a blue zippered pouch and went toward the rear exit of the building. Witnesses did not see him leave the building, Thies said.
