Soup Kitchen

As members of a neighbor congregation to the South Coast Christian Church of Costa Mesa, who also try to implement their beliefs with ministries of compassion, especially to the hungry, we wish to register support of the Rev. Bob Ewing and his people in their conflict with the city of Costa Mesa over the housing of a soup kitchen.
Nothing seems clearer to us in the Christian Scriptures than the mandate to do what the South Coast Christian Church is doing. It does not exceed appropriate “accessory uses that are normally associated with churches,” many which not only feed but also provide emergency housing for those in need. It is, rather, the kind of activity that helps churches remain true to one of their central reasons for existence.
