Princess Gina of Liechtenstein, 67, wife of the world’s longest ruling head of state. The popular Austrian-born princess is survived by her 83-year-old husband, Franz Josef II. They married in 1943, five years after he took office as the 12th ruling prince of Liechtenstein, a tiny principality between Austria and Switzerland. Between agriculture and high technology, it has become one of the world’s wealthiest countries. In 1984, Franz Josef II turned over the running of the country to his son, Hans Adam, oldest of their five children, but he remains head of state. Princess Gina was president of the Liechtenstein Red Cross and active in many other charities. In Vaduz, Liechtenstein, on Wednesday of an undisclosed illness.
