Sex Church Figure to Take AIDS Test

A Canyon Country woman who claims to be the high priestess of an ancient church that incorporates sex acts in its rituals will be tested for the AIDS virus under an agreement reached by court and health authorities Monday.

Mary Ellen Tracy, 47, was convicted in September on two charges of prostitution and one charge of running a house of ill fame. Her husband, Will Tracy, 51, was convicted on one charge of running a house of ill fame.

Los Angeles Municipal Court Judge Marion L. Obera originally ordered Mary Ellen Tracy to take the AIDS test in county jail. Last week it appeared that Tracy might have to return to jail to take the test, even though she and her husband are free on bail while appealing their convictions, said Tracy’s public defender, Maureen J. Tchakalian.

But on Monday the judge allowed Tracy to take the test at a county health facility.

Mary Ellen Tracy claims to have had sex with more than 2,000 men in the name of her religion. The couple operated their Church of the Most High Goddess out of a house in West Los Angeles. Police called the church a front for a prostitution ring.

Mary Ellen Tracy was sentenced to 90 days in jail and fined $3,000. Her husband was sentenced to 180 days in jail and fined $1,000.
