WORLD IN BRIEF : LEBANON : Peace Plan Wins Mixed Response

The Lebanese Parliament’s plan for Muslims and Christians to share power equally in an effort to end the 14-year civil war drew both praise and ridicule. Syrian-backed Muslim leader Salim Hoss said it would be “suicide” to reject the plan. But Maj. Gen. Michel Aoun, leader of the Christian army, said the plan “will lead us to hell.” Walid Jumblatt, head of the Druze militia and Aoun’s chief foe, called the plan “fake and silly.”
