LOCAL : Costa Mesa Man Held in Attack

A Costa Mesa man who robbed a woman with two young children at knifepoint in a parking lot was arrested after witnesses trailed him to a nearby apartment complex, police said today.
Shawn Thomas Ritchie, 21, was arrested after allegedly confronting a Corona del Mar woman who had a baby in her arms and another child trailing behind her Monday night in a parking lot outside the Marshalls department store in the 2300 block of Harbor Boulevard. Police said Ritchie took her purse, which contained $75.
Witnesses told police that they chased the robber to a room at the Mediterranean Village apartments in the 2400 block of Harbor Boulevard.
Ritchie was taken into custody in the apartment by Costa Mesa police officers, who said they found the victim’s purse and the knife. He was booked on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
