Local : Santa Ana Man Dies in Hit-Run
A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a man as he walked across a Santa Ana crosswalk, police said today.
Jeff Charles Upton, 59, of Santa Ana was hit by a burgundy-colored car at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday as he was crossing Main Street at the intersection of Walnut Street, Santa Ana police said. They said the automobile was foreign-made but had no further description.
A man who was walking ahead of Upton in the crosswalk told police that he saw the northbound car headed toward them on Main. After striking Upton, the car sped to 1st Street, where it turned right.
Upton was taken to United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead a short time after the accident, according to police.
