HEALTH : Britons Endorse Abortion Pill
From Times staff and wire service reports
LONDON —
Leading British doctors today endorsed a French abortion pill that anti-abortion campaigners have so far kept off the international market.
Doctors addressing a conference at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said the pill, RU486, is medically safer and much cheaper than surgical abortions.
“This is a safe, effective and generally acceptable method of medical (drug-induced) abortion,” said David Baird, professor of reproductive endocrinology at the University of Edinburgh.
