WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH KOREA : Decision Due on U.S. Jet Purchase

South Korean Defense Minister Lee Sang Hoon informed U.S. Defense Secretary Dick Cheney that the Seoul government will buy 120 U.S. jet fighters early next month. The South Koreans will choose between the F/A-18 Hornet, built by the McDonnell Douglas Corp., or the F-16 Falcon built by General Dynamics Corp., in order to modernize their aging F-5 fighters.
