Malibu : Soviet Expert at Pepperdine
Leo Gruliow, a scholar at Columbia and Ohio State universities who edited the Current Digest of the Soviet Press for 30 years, will speak on the “The Gorbachev Revolution” at Pepperdine University today at 4 p.m. in the Fireside Room.
The Current Digest is widely relied on by Soviet experts to track the latest developments in the Soviet Union through lengthy translations from sometimes obscure publications.
Starting in the mid-1930s, Gruliow also worked as an American journalist in the Soviet Union for 10 years, including a stint with Moscow News and assignments as bureau chiefs for the Christian Science Monitor and the Saturday Evening Post in the 1970s.
