A British tabloid made actor Clint Eastwood’s day Thursday, agreeing to pay him libel damages for publishing what it conceded were lies about his private life. The amount of the settlement from News Group Newspapers, publishers of the News of The World weekly, was not disclosed in proceedings at the High Court in London. Eastwood’s lawyer said the money would be given to charity. A lawyer for the publishers said the News of the World acknowledged that the stories gravely libeled Eastwood and apologized for the wrong done to him.
