‘Ignorance Is No Bliss’

The test results quoted in your editorial betray a pervasive lack of knowledge of history, literature and the humanities in general. No doubt many of the students tested were science or engineering majors, who have minimal academic requirements to meet in the humanities. The results reflect a devaluation of education for its own sake in our society in favor of education as a means to make money.

On the other hand, I would be willing to wager that the people who devised the test could not explain what a logarithm is.
