WORLD IN BRIEF : CZECHOSLOVAKIA : Dissidents Detained to Discourage Rally

Police pulled playwright Vaclav Havel from his sickbed and arrested other dissidents to try to stifle a rally scheduled for today, the anniversary of the founding of a democratic Czechoslovakia in 1918. The Charter 77 human rights movement and other groups have urged citizens to go to Prague’s main square to mark the anniversary and peacefully show dissatisfaction with Communist authorities.
