TENNIS ROUNDUP : Seles Doesn’t Need Much Time to Beat Mandlikova

Third-seeded Monica Seles of Yugoslavia, 15, needed just 42 minutes to overpower Australia’s Hana Mandlikova, 6-0, 6-1, Friday as the top four seeded players advanced to the semifinals of a women’s tournament at Brighton, England.
No. 1 seeded Steffi Graf of West Germany, the defending champion, breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Elna Reinach of South Africa.
Second-seeded Manuela Maleeva of Bulgaria coasted to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Catarina Lindqvist of Sweden, and fourth-seeded Jana Novotna of Czechoslovakia routed eighth-seeded Raffaella Reggi of Italy, 6-3, 6-1.
Miloslav Mecir of Czechoslovakia upset defending champion John McEnroe, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, to join Ivan Lendl and Michael Chang in the semifinals of a $1-million tournament at Antwerp, Belgium.
Lendl, the world’ No. 1 player, overpowered Horst Skoff of Austria and won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Chang beat Alberto Mancini of Argentina, 6-4, 6-3, to set up his first match with Lendl since he beat him at the French Open.
Third-seeded Kevin Curren edged Glenn Layendecker, 7-6, 7-6, to reach the semifinals of a $237,000 tournament at Frankfurt, West Germany. Curren was the only seeded player to reach the semifinals.
