Italy said it is prepared to take the “consequent decisions” in the case of an Italian who was shot and set afire in Libya during anti-Italian protests. The government called on Libya to disclose the circumstances of the murder Wednesday of Roberto Ceccato, 35. In an interview with Italy’s RAI Television, Libyan leader Col. Moammar Kadafi said he had not heard about Ceccato’s slaying, which has shocked Italy and strained relations between the two countries. In a further comment that outraged many Italians, Kadafi added: “I hope he had life insurance.”
