TALLADEGA, Ala. — Tammy Faye Bakker, staying in a $37.50-a-night motel room to be near her imprisoned husband, Jim Bakker, says the deposed evangelist is “holding on to his faith.”
Mrs. Bakker, who arrived here Friday and checked into a room in the Colony House Motel, spoke briefly outside her room Sunday after visiting with her husband.
“He is doing as well as can be expected under these conditions,” she said of her husband, according to the Birmingham Post-Herald. “I wouldn’t say he is in high spirits but he is holding on to his faith.”
The motel is about 5 miles from the Federal Correctional Institution where Bakker on Tuesday began his 45-year prison sentence for defrauding PTL ministry followers of millions of dollars.
