Strindberg Sets Record: A painting by Swedish playwright August Strindberg (“Miss Julie,” “The Ghost Sonata”) set a Scandinavian record when it sold for $2.44 million late Tuesday in Stockholm. “Lighthouse II,” an oil painting depicting a white lighthouse against dramatic skies, was painted by Strindberg in 1901, said a spokesman of the Stockholm auction firm Bukowskis. The seller of “Lighthouse II” was Swedish writer Olof Lagercrantz who bought it for $8,000 in 1975 when he was working on a Strindberg biography. The buyer was a Swedish art dealer.
