Mexico Reports Rise in Number of AIDS Cases
Health authorities estimate that the number of acquired immune deficiency syndrome cases reported in Mexico to date tops 3,000, the independent newspaper La Jornada reported Wednesday.
The National AIDS Council said the number reported at the beginning of September was 2,937 and probably hit the 3,000 mark at the beginning of November, the newspaper said.
The geographic distribution of the cases reported leads authorities to discard a hypothesis that the northern part of Mexico, because of its proximity to centers of contagion in the United States, has a higher incidence of the disease, the council said.
