After six weeks of deadlocked negotiations, teachers and administrators in the Saugus Union Elementary School District have reached a tentative contract accord, the president of the teachers’ union said today.

Jo Ann Pryor, president of the 214-member Saugus Teachers Assn., said union and district negotiators hammered out an agreement late Thursday night. The accord apparently ends almost two months of occasionally bitter negotiations which included protests by teachers outside school board meetings.

The agreement would give the teachers a 4% raise this year and a 1% raise for the 1990-1991 school year, Pryor said. These pay hikes will be in addition to a 12% raise the teachers were already scheduled to receive over this year and next year. The agreement will also clarify district policies on transferring teachers from school to school, she said.

Members of the teachers association will vote on the proposed settlement next Wednesday. The Saugus district, with 5,500 students, is located in the Santa Clarita Valley.
