Pro-Choice Groups Tell Plan for 1,000 ‘Points of Light’ Protests in 150 Cities
Supporters of abortion rights announced plans Friday for 1,000 demonstrations in 150 cities Nov. 12 that will begin with a “thousand points of light” sunrise service near President Bush’s vacation home and be highlighted by a massive rally at the Lincoln Memorial.
The protests will begin near Bush’s home in Kennebunkport, Me., with a sunrise service at a Unitarian Church, featuring protesters holding candles, and will end with a similar event that night in San Francisco.
In between, there will be the Washington rally as well as smaller events in sites reaching from Kodiak, Alaska, to Sarasota, Fla., and including Southern cities usually considered hotbeds of anti-abortion activity. In all, there are about 1,000 events planned in 150 locations, organizers said.
