From Times staff and wire service reports

Joan Rivers says that four days after her husband killed himself, she flew into a rage, cursed him and smashed all his medicine bottles.

She said that at the time, two years ago, she didn’t understand her actions.

“I opened his medicine chest, which I was never allowed to go near,” she said. Saying “What did you do to us?” she “took out every jar of pills and smashed them on the floor of the bathroom,” she said.

“I thought, ‘I love my husband, I miss my husband.’ ”

But, she said, she was also extremely angry and with each jar she threw, she cursed him.

The entertainer gave her account during her syndicated television talk show, which she taped last week in Los Angeles for airing Friday.

Her husband of 22 years, Edgar Rosenberg, killed himself with an overdose of sedatives Aug. 14, 1987. He left tapes in which he expressed despondency over his health and business problems.
