Airlines Improve On-Time Performance: The Transportation Department reported that major U.S. airlines in September logged their best on-time performance since April. The data for September showed that the 12 largest carriers reported 79.6% of their flights operating on time, an improvement over the 74.6% that operated on time in August. It was the best record since April’s 83.4%. Mishandled baggage complaints filed against carriers averaged 7.25 reports per 1,000 passengers in September, compared to 8.19 in August, the report said.
