Continental Corp.: The New York-based insurance company reported a third-quarter net loss of $27.7 million, compared to a net loss of $28.2 million a year ago. The 1989 result includes a previously announced $80-million pretax charge for losses resulting from Hurricane Hugo. Revenue was $1.5 billion, unchanged from a year ago. The company said higher underwriting losses affected results. The year-ago results included a loss from discontinued operations of $51.9 million.
