NAMES IN THE NEWS : Di’s Swimsuit Titillates Press
The royal trip to Hong Kong had been rather uneventful until four unauthorized photos of Princess Diana in a bathing suit popped up in the newspaper Sing Tao Wan Pao. The pictures were not revealing--showing Diana walking around a rooftop swimming pool in a modest red one-piece swimsuit at the British military headquarters--but they sparked a frenzy among the British tabloid press covering the royal visit.
Published reports said the Star of London paid $40,000 for the exclusive British rights to the pictures, which apparently were taken from a nearby high-rise. “Personally, I don’t think the pictures were worth the money,” a Hong Kong government official said. “They were nothing out of the ordinary.” Diana was heading back to London tonight as planned, but Prince Charles will stay until Monday.
