Ruling on Housing Plan at Pierce Site Is Delayed

The Los Angeles Planning Commission on Thursday delayed a decision on whether to allow 23 houses to be built on 17 acres of vacant property leased from Pierce College.

The five-member panel said it did not want to rule until the City Council decides whether to allow Temple Shar Chadash, which wants to build the houses, to build a temple on the same property.

An appeal on planning department approval for the temple is scheduled Nov. 28 before the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Directors of the temple leased the parcel from the college more than three years ago. Neighbors have complained about the proposed development, saying the land should remain vacant.
