The ‘New Michael Milken’ Sounds a Lot Like the ‘Old Michael Milken’ in Sheep’s Clothing

The article “The New Milken” (Oct. 15) shows Michael Milken to be “The Old Milken.”

“Helping people” as a primary goal is just baloney. Milken is quoted as complaining that “people are so hung up on money.” That’s from someone who has sought and received hundreds of millions of dollars using his wit, not building or growing anything.

Recall that Ivan F. Boesky hired a public relations firm to tell the world (and the court before sentencing) that he had gotten religion and went back to basics in his Jewish faith to study the Scriptures and become a nice guy.

Well, I have a hunch that Michael Milken is also trying to appear neither a parasite nor a toady.

Don’t forget that the hundreds of millions of dollars the Boeskys and Milkens made came from ordinary people who pay interest on loans, lose money in mutual funds and bonds, and watch pension funds go down the tubes.

I sometimes wonder how Milken can face his wife and children every day knowing that the people who paid for their Rolls and Rolexes may be struggling with Hyundais and Timexes.
