Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc.: The publishing company reported a third-quarter loss as it took charges related to its schoolbook division and for refinancing its huge debt. The loss totaled $102.7 million, contrasted with a profit of $60.2 million a year ago. Revenue rose to $470.1 million from $463.2 million. The Orlando, Fla., company said slower than expected demand for its elementary and secondary school textbooks hurt earnings and led to charges.
