HUNTINGTON BEACH : Wetlands Advisory Members Named

Share

In a move to try to restore more wetlands within the city, the City Council on Monday night appointed a new 18-member advisory group to be called the Wetlands Coalition.

The coalition includes two City Council members, Don MacAllister and Peter M. Green, as well as representatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the state Department of Fish and Game.

The group’s focus will be on the inland side of Pacific Coast Highway between Beach Boulevard and the Santa Ana River. The council authorized formation of the group on Oct. 16, and the 18 members were appointed Monday night.

“We had such success with our coalition that worked to find a solution on the Bolsa Chica wetlands that we decided to appoint a new coalition to study this other area,” MacAllister said earlier Monday.

“While there was only one landowner involved with Bolsa Chica, here we have several landowners. So this group will be studying possible ways that the property owners can still develop their land, while leaving a portion for possible wetlands use.”
