CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : YOSEMITE : Helicopter Rescues Injured Climber
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A rescue helicopter plucked a climber with a broken ankle from near the top of Washington’s Column in Yosemite National Park. Park Ranger John Roth rappelled from the top of the peak onto a ledge 25 feet below, where he treated climber Dan Bradford’s ankle. Both men were then hoisted into a helicopter from Lemoore Naval Air Station. Bradford, 37, of Taos, N.M., was treated at the Yosemite Clinic and then flown to Modesto Memorial Hospital.
