A chained pit bull attacked and killed a 2-year-old Northern California toddler who wandered too close to the dog, authorities said. Garrett East was pronounced dead at Southern Humboldt County Hospital in Garberville after the attack at his uncle’s nearby home. Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Philt said the dog was tied to a truck, but the boy wandered near the animal and was bitten several times on the neck before the pit bull could be pulled away.
