Monterey Park : Flood Inquiry Ordered

The City Council has directed water department officials to speed up their investigation of why water is seeping through the ground and flooding several Fulton Avenue homes.
The move came after half a dozen residents of the 1500 block of Fulton Avenue appealed to the city for help at Monday’s council meeting.
“My wife and I have been worried sick day and night for the past eight days,” said resident Sam Sum, who fears that the foundation of his home may collapse. “We feel like there’s a time bomb ticking under our feet.”
Sue Tenorio, who told council members that she has a foot of water around the house, said she hired several plumbers to find a solution to the problem.
Following the meeting, the city set up two water pumps along Fulton Avenue to alleviate flooding in the area, said Public Works Director Nels Palm. A geologist has been hired to help find the cause of the flooding, he said.
