More than 2,000 Southern California Edison customers in Torrance lost power for 35 minutes Tuesday night after a car slammed into a power pole anchor, knocking down 300 feet of electrical wires.
Most of the buildings affected were in a residential area bounded by Via Campesina in Palos Verdes Estates, Camino de la Costa in Redondo Beach and Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance, said Edison spokesman Ted Porter.
Witnesses told an Edison crew that a car hit the pole anchor on Pacific Coast Highway near Anza Avenue about 8 p.m., sending the lines cascading into the street. No one was injured in the accident, and the driver drove away shortly afterward, witnesses said.
