John Denver is going to bat for trees. He’s joining the National Arbor Day Foundation in urging people to plant trees during a nationwide campaign. Denver will be the featured spokesman for the foundation’s new nationwide “Trees for America” campaign, appearing in public-service advertisements. . . . Monaco is scoffing at a magazine report that says Prince Rainier III is about to abdicate in favor of his son, Prince Albert, after 40 years on the throne. The article in Paris Match said an announcement would be made by the end of the year and possibly as soon as Sunday. The author of the article, Noelle Namia, said her sources were “as solid as the rock of Monaco itself since they come directly from members of the government.” A palace spokeswoman has angrily denied the report.
