County municipalities collectively became almost $18 million richer with the most recent allocation of sales and use tax revenues by the State Board of Equalization. Anaheim claimed the largest share of the pot, $2.4 million, while the $8,600 sent to Villa Park was the smallest amount to any city. Costa Mesa had easily the largest per-capita distribution, $18.86.The total amount distributed to the county, $19 million (which includes funds sent to county government as well as the cities), was far in arrears of the Los Angeles County figure. Orange County had a higher per capita amount than any of the surrounding counties.

Each month city and county governments and other governmental organizations receive payments from the state in anticipation of actual sales tax revenues. In the fourth month they receive a cleanup payment--the difference between actual revenues and the amounts previously received--plus the first advance payment for the next quarter. The amounts listed here are the second advance payment for the third quarter of 1989.
