From Times Staff and Wire Reports

More than 75 farm workers fell ill in a cauliflower field treated with a deadly pesticide and 11 were hospitalized overnight with vomiting, dizziness and breathing problems. The laborers had been exposed Wednesday to Phosdrin, a pesticide that attacks insects’ central nervous systems. One woman in intensive care at a Tampa, Fla., hospital showed no improvement, “while the others have,” a spokeswoman said. She said the woman’s condition was considered life-threatening. State regulators said the owners of the Goodson Farms, in the Balm community 10 miles east of St. Petersburg, could face civil charges.
